Calcium Citrate Chewable (500mg) - Wild Cherry, 90 Tablets -Bariatric Advantage

  • $35.19

If you have had bariatric surgery, do not allow yourself to ever lapse from taking an adequate calcium supplement. After bariatric surgery, bones are at extreme risk for the development of osteoporosis, which leads to life altering fractures of the hip and spine.

Calcium Citrate is the form of calcium recommended because it is well absorbed even with the lack of stomach acid after gastric bypass or sleeve procedures.  Other forms of calcium such as calcium carbonate may be very poorly absorbed due to this lack of stomach acid.  Vitamin K and vitamin D are also important in bone health.  They are included in this supplement in amounts designed complement the Bariatric Multivitamin Products listed in the NutriScape Shop.

While osteoporosis guidelines recommend 1200 mg calcium per day, the ASMBS bariatric surgery guidelines recommend 1200-1500 mg Calcium per day including food sources to keep bones healthy. The following list may help you to calculate your usual intake of calcium through foods:
